St Paul's Evenwood

Image: St Paul's Church, EvenwoodSt Paul's Wheatley Park is twinned with the parish church of St Paul's Evenwood, near Bishop Auckland, County Durham.

The parish of St Paul’s Evenwood serves a population of around 2,500 and lies in the deanery of Barnard Castle. It includes the villages Evenwood, Ramshaw, Evenwood Gate and borders on the parishes of St. Helens, Ingleton, Staindrop, Cockfield and Etherley.

Evenwood, the heart of the parish, has four council estates and one private estate but is predominantly a village of terraced housing. Although there is no supermarket in the village there is a good range of shops. The parish is only now emerging fully from the closure of the mining industry with its associated products, helped by three medium size companies and a number of smaller units, all of which employ people from the village. In spite of this most people work outside the parish.
